Nia Move: Front Kick

Daily practice: Lift your thigh, tucking your heel in toward your buttocks (Ready Position). Look in the direction you intend to kick, with your elbows bent and palms flexed and held at about heart level. While exhaling, extend your foot out in front of you simultaneously pushing down into the Earth with your standing leg. Keep the front of your thigh pointing toward the ceiling, and the knee of your supporting leg spring-loaded (unlocked). Vary the height of your kicks; start low, experimenting with different heights. Energizing the kick through your heel, lengthen the leg during each kick without stressing the knee joint. Finish the kick by returning the leg to Ready Position then lowering the kicking foot to the ground. This move will build confidence, coordination, balance, and strength.
